THE CHAIRS HONOURS AND RECOGNITIONS SCHEME
The Constitution states Chairs should stand down every three years. Retiring Chairs, who have served a minimum of two years in the role, have the option of awarding Honours and Special Recognition awards to those who they believe have made a significant contribution to the Friends.
Awards
Three levels of awards will be in place:
Honours - Life member to Honorary Life Member and Member to Honorary Member
Honorary Friend (for non-members)
Special Recognition
Proposal of Honours nominees
The initial list, if any, is determined by the outgoing Chair and advised to Committee members. All members of the committee then are also given the opportunity to nominate persons for an Honours Award.
Chairs Honours and Recognitions panel
Will comprise of the Senior Officers of the Friends - Chair, Vice or Deputy Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. The Chairs Honours Panel debates and decides who is to receive an Honorary Award Honours or Special Recognition Award.
Voting
By majority. In the event of a tie, the Chair to have the deciding vote.
Change in type of membership
An awarded member who decides to pay for Life Membership carries the Honours Award to the new membership type and will be designated Honorary Life Member.
Honours Criteria
Trustee service and Committee service - based on length of service, not less than seven years’ service and / or performance in the role.
Honorary Friends Criteria
University staff members – those who have actively supported the Friends and helped us progress in our main objective of supporting the students
Special Recognition Criteria
Friends’ volunteers - based on period of service, not less than two years and / or performance in the role.
Honours Awards procedure
Persons being recognised for an Honours or Honorary Friends Award will be informed by the Secretary. Awardees are then asked if they are prepared to accept, and if so and are invited to the next AGM.
Preferably at the last AGM held as or before the Chair steps down. Honours awardees will receive an Honours plaque, announced by the Chair, and presented by the President.
Those not able to attend the AGM will be offered the opportunity to receive our thanks the plaque and from the Chair at the first Committee meeting following the AGM. For those not able to collect in person, arrangements will be made for delivery of the plaque to their home address.
Honours and Honorary Friends recipients will be included in a Friends Honours List on the ‘About Us’ page of the Friends web-site.
Special Recognition Awards procedure
Persons agreed to receive a Special Recognition Award will be informed formally in writing by the Chair.
